Summer Project: White Betty Draper-esque dress with Pink flowers

So yesterday I finally finished the dress I've been working on for a while. I made it with a vintage pattern I bought at an antique store a few years back, and I used some of the fabric I bought at the estate sale I went to back in June.

It was so perfect! I had been wanting to make a dress with this pattern for quite a while, even more so since I started watching Mad Men, and this fabric was the kind of fabric I was imagining using for this pattern. The chunk I bought at the estate sale was exactly the right amount (I hardly had any extra fabric!), so it just felt like it was all meant to be. Even better, the fabric looks a lot like the stuff right on the pattern cover, it's stretchy, and I think that the texture it has makes it look more vintage (perfect to go with the pattern!).

This pattern says copyright 1958 on it, and I just feel like it looks exactly like the kind of thing that Betty Draper would have been wearing in the first couple seasons of Mad Men.

The best part about Simplicity patterns is that the old ones as just as easy to understand as the new ones!

This is fairly poofy, but I still feel like I want to wear it with a crinoline to make it even poofier!

Doesn't that even look like Betty Draper? I now have a Betty Draper dress!

One word... AWESOME!!! It totally looks like something you'd find in the Mad Men costume department!

Oh man, you have been such a productive sewer lately. You're making me feel guilty!! However, this dress is fantastic, and the fabric you used is just perfect. I love vintage patterns, once I get some more sewing skills I'd like to try something like this one. Do you have any recommendations on easy patterns for cute dresses?

Wow! You are soo good. And you are right the 'picture' does look like Betty Draper! If you lived near by I would have loved to see it in person!
