So instead of finishing the project I was working on last week, I decided to start a new project (I just didn't feel like inserting any zippers yesterday). So yesterday evening, after Mad Men was over, I drafted up a pattern and started sewing this skirt. It's a similar idea to the flowered skirt I made in May, but I wanted this one to be fuller (a bit more like a circle skirt), and have pockets (I always seem to miss them when I have none!). I think this one turned out better than the previous one, even if I might not like the fabric as much.
The best part about this skirt is that the fabric I bought for it was a remnant that was on sale buy 1, get 2 free! This scrap was $1.80, but since the other ones were both $5, I got all three scraps for $5. Then all I had to buy was the elastic!
The only thing I would do differently next time would be to make the pockets a little bigger. My hands fit in them fine, but I'd rather have them roomier.

| To make these pockets, I put in a bit of a dart, and then cut it. Since my skirt had 4 panels, and I didn't want a seam in the front, or to have to split the side panels in half, this was the way I made it work. |

Gorgeous! And you gotta love pockets in skirts... I wish my work skirts had pockets, it would be nice to have a place to put my phone and money!
That skirt looks amazing!! You are very talented. I want to take a sewing class soon and would like to make the perfect tutu skirt not too fluffy not to flat. Great post!
lovely print...always admire dusty pink & green combo!
Oh gosh, zippers are the bane of my existence (as far as sewing goes). I can't blame you for opting to avoid them. This skirt looks great and incredibly professional, even down to the inside. The inside of my garments always have a distinctly "Becky Home Ec-y" feel. It's my downfall. I may need to invest in a serger this winter.
